Ikanga Airstrip is located approximately 5.3 Km from Voi Town on plot No G.L 6866 along Nairobi- Mombasa Highway. The airstrip lies on lowland surrounded by two hills, one to the west of the Ikanga airstrip about 9 km from the airstrip and to east of Ikanga airstrip lies another hills about 7 km located within Tsavo East national Park. The proposed project area is surrounded by two settlement schemes, Mbololo Tausa adjudication settlement scheme and Mbololo Mraru Settlement schemes.

The project carrying out comprehensive Environmental and Social impacts Assessments (ESIA) on the upgrading and rehabilitation runway of the 1,600.00 m long and 23.00 m wide with magnetic orientation of 18/22 and of 100meters by 75 meters apron from graved standards to bitumen standards. The upgrading of the acces road was also included.
ECA successfully completed the study project and the client was issued with NEMA EIA license permitting Safaricom Ltd to undertake and implement the proposed project.
