Environtech Consultancy Africa Ltd was sub-contracted by Property world Ltd to undertake Environmental and social Impacts Assessment of proposed construction works of Kenya National Irrigation Board South West Kano Irrigation Scheme Development Project, Phase 1- Kisumu County. The proposed Phase I rehabilitation of South West Kano Irrigation Scheme Development Project involved expansion of the water intake canals from Nyando River and rehabilitation of the open water canals. South West Kano Irrigation scheme covers 1,158ha that are under rice production out of the total 2,229 acres, yielding 1,615 tons of paddy. The irrigation scheme lies on the following coordinates latitudes 0o 10’34.574”S and longitudes 34o 55’ 15.891”. The total cost of the rehabilitation project was Kshs. 124 Millions ($1,078,260).
The project was successfully completed leading to National Irrigation Board being issued with NEMA EIA license permit for the undertaking of the project.
