Environtech Consultancy Africa Ltd was contracted by Power axis in association with Kenya Power to undertake Environmental and Social impacts Assessment study for the relocation of 207Km Kenya power 11& 66kV overhead power line to underground distribution cable in Nairobi area. The covered a distance of 207km and transversed via residential and business areas of South C, Nairobi West, Lang’ata, Onyonka, Civil Servant Estate, Mountain Estate, Kangemi, Westlands, Highway Estate Jonathan Ng’eno Estate, Otiende Estate, Rubia Estate, Halai Estate, Al Mubarak Estate and Thompson Estate with Nairobi in Nairobi County. The underground cable was to be also be connected to the following power substation; Cathederal 11/66kV S/Station (Near the Grand Regency (Laico Regency), Ngong Road 11/66kV S/Station, Nairobi West 11/66kV S/Station and Kileleshwa 11/ 6kV S/Station. The relocation was proposed to take place mostly on the existing road infrastructures of which the overhead cable happen to pass along. The proposed relocation of overhead Cable to Underground Distribution Cable was to cost total sum of USD 188,994,296 to relocate. ECA successfully completed the study project and the client was issued with NEMA EIA license permitting Kenya Power to undertake the proposed project.
